NVRLT. "THE PITSTOP" Poster

A pitstop that turned everything on its head.

The last 200km were complete tunnel vision averaging 160km/h over the Atlas Mountains of Algeria. We made it onto the Trans-Sahara-Highway and decided it's time for a well deserved stop.

Keep in mind after spending over 27 hours on a ferry from Marseille to Algiers, another 10h in border control, we were really tired.

Coordinates mark the spot. A remote truck stop in the dead of night. All 5 cars had made it this far, but what happened after this stop is nothing we could've expected.

Fuel? Check. Water & Food? Check. All cars were ready - 8 hours to go.

About 45min later we lost sight of the Ignis Sport and the BMW E36 - shortly after we got a phone call from Leander stating "Dennis' engine is rattling." This call marked the beginning of the end.

What really happened was: 2 of 6 pressure plate bolts backed out of the threads and were flung toward the inside of the bellhousing. The result? A huge crack in the transmission.

What we expected to be 8 hours of driving turned into a tiring adventure of towing at approximately 60-80km/h.
